One of the things we think is different about Rule of Rose is that Jennifer is just an ordinary, vulnerable girl. IGN: As a survival horror game, how did you try and differentiate Rule of Rose from existing titles like Silent Hill or Resident Evil? We wanted to make the game psychological horror rather than visual horror. As Rule of Rose readies for release in the west, we had the opportunity to sit down with the title's creative director Shuji Ishikawa and associate producer Yuya Takayama to learn more about their ambitions for the game. Consisting entirely of children, it seems the Aristocrats have total control over both their peers and the adults of the world, exacting horrible, brutal punishments on those that refuse to pander to their every desires. Waking alone in a park at the beginning of the game, she quickly finds herself trapped in the world of the 'Red Crayon Aristocrats'. Set in 1930s England, an era where the notion of travel was at the forefront of people's minds, Rule of Rose follows the story of a young girl called Jennifer. While it bares many similarities to other games of its ilk, it offers up plenty of interesting new ideas - particularly as far as its story goes. One title that eschews the modern trend - and might, as a result, be criticised for its lack of innovation in the genre - is Rule of Rose.
